Temperature Responses to Spectral Solar Variability on Decadal Time Scales
[1] Two scenarios of spectral solar forcing, namely Spectral Irradiance Monitor (SIM)‐based out‐of‐phase variations and conventional in‐phase variations, are input to a time‐dependent radiative‐convective model (RCM), and to the GISS modelE. Both scenarios and models give maximum temperature responses in the upper stratosphere, decreasing to the surface. Upper stratospheric peak‐to‐ peak respon...
متن کاملCircular Polarization Variability in Extragalactic Sources on Time Scales of Months to Decades
We present previously unpublished circular polarization (cp) measurements at 4.8 and 8.0 GHz made with the University of Michigan 26-meter prime focus telescope during 1978–1984 and results of a new observational program during the past two years. Based on the preliminary analysis of our recent data, eight sources were detected at 4.8 GHz with average degrees of cp ranging from ≤ 0.1% to ≥ 1%. ...

Time scales for fission at finite temperature
The concept of the ”transient effect” is examined in respect of a ”mean first passage time”. It is demonstrated that the time the fissioning system stays inside the barrier is much larger than suggested by the transient time, and that no enhancement of emission of neutrons over that given by Kramers’ rate formula ought to be considered.
متن کاملAGN variability time scales and the discrete - event model
We analyse the ultraviolet variability time scales in a sample of 15 Type 1 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) observed by IUE. Using a structure function analysis, we demonstrate the existence in most objects of a maximum variability time scale of the order of 0.02–1.00 year. We do not find any significant dependence of these maximum variability time scales on the wavelength, but we observe a weak c...
